By DANIEL MACIVOR Produced in association with Theatre NorthWest, Prince George
When a free-spirited woman dies unexpectedly, her two middle-aged sons bicker over her funeral arrangements, her personal effects—and her feisty Italian Greyhound. Unearthing decades worth of buried rivalry, they ponder meaningful questions like "Who did she like best?" and "Who gets the dog?" An eccentric modern comedy by one of Canada's most celebrated playwrights - about life, death, aging parents and dealing with brothers who simply refuse to grow up... or don't know how to stay young.
Why THE BEST BROTHERS? | Artistic Director James MacDonald
I love this play because I could see the similarities between the relationships in the show and my own relationships with my parents and siblings. The Best Brothers has a humorous outlook on how our relationships change as we grow up and get older that everyone can connect with. Daniel MacIvor is one of Canada’s most-produced playwrights, well-known for his darkly comic, ironic monologues – this play is just as funny but has a lovely, bittersweet, personal touch. Plus, he still has an incredible talent for allowing you to look at your own life, family, age...and potential demise... in a fresh, entertaining light. The Best Brothers is really honest and identifiable, and I think our audiences will relate to this play just as much as I do.
