The Show Artistic TeamRemergence Festival Home
In this performance, we will explore the difficult and universally human topics of loss, regret and navigating the sinuous process of self-repair through movement, music and spoken word. We will take on roles as plants and animals both to illuminate the audience to the lighter side of these topics and to the broader concept that suffering is not restricted to the human species, or even to living organisms, but rather is something that applies equally to ecosystems, the communities of all kinds and the globe. We have struggled with feeling small and like our problems pale alongside larger societal issues that our place of privilege prevents us from fully feeling. We have come to accept that our stories, as small as they are, are universal, and it is these common emotional experiences that unite us. Our overall message is one of optimism. Our problems, big or small, may break us. But our intrinsic resilience means that we can mend ourselves.
SAGE RAYMOND (Performer) HUNTER VOGEL (Performer) JYELLE VOGEL (Performer)
Sage Raymond is a wildlife technician, bear-viewing guide and animal tracker, and she does partner acrobatics on the side for fun. A committed nature nerd, she spends most of her time tracking animals, hiking and camping. She is currently working on her Masters degree in ecology studying urban-dwelling coyotes. Grizzly bears are her favourite animal, but she also has a soft spot for toads and bats, which has led to numerous (unsubstantiated) accusations of witchcraft.
Hunter Vogel lives and works in Kamloops and has supported his sister in the production of two Hydra festival pieces. He is educated with a BSc in engineering from UBC... (which he never took much advantage of). Is part of the Kamloops Farmers Market as one half of the “Good For You Crepes” team. Spends too much time at the Kamloops Makerspace. Generally enjoys being outside, and co-ed rec soccer in Kamloops (Covid permitting) - Go team! He takes time to play the piano and go on adventures.
Jyelle Vogel is grateful to reside on the unceded lands of the Tk'emlups te Secwepemc on the North Shore. She is involved with the Kamloops Makerspace, works for the Kamloops Art Gallery, does after school programming, and makes crêpes at the Saturday Farmers Market. She has a BFA from the University of Victoria and is still not quite sure she will ever be a grownup.
