The interim Artistic Director of WCT during its 1988/1989 Season, John Cooper was already recognized for his contributions to the company during seasons prior to his appointment, as a director with WCT of productions such as Filthy Rich, Fire and Love Is Strange. During his time as the Artistic Director, John also directed the productions Blithe Spirit and The Delphic Orioles.
In the 25 years since his time at WCTC, John has directed almost 100 shows across Canada, and has been awarded three Jessie Richardson Awards for Directing. Recent productions include What You’re Missing for Vancouver’s Chutzpah! Festival, Whose Life Is It Anyway? for RealWheels Theatre, and Big Mama; The Willie Mae Thornton Story for The Belfry Theatre and National Arts Centre. John also teaches directing for UBC’s Department of Theatre and Film.
