London, 1901. Bella Manningham has a picture-perfect life in a gorgeous Victorian manor home with her debonair and doting husband, Jack. But Bella fears she is losing her mind. Items mysteriously disappear, pictures move unexpectedly, gas lights dim for no apparent reason, and strange noises creak through the house at night when Bella is home alone. Is she losing her grip on reality, or is it being loosened for her? Gaslight, v.: To manipulate (a person) by psychological means into questioning his or her own sanity (Oxford English Dictionary). Based on Patrick Hamilton’s 1938 mystery play Angel Street, where the term “gaslighting” was coined. This gripping new adaptation places female resilience and solidarity centre stage as Bella takes her fate in her own hands to solve the mystery that plagues her mind.
