The Kamloops Wine Festival Will Return in May 2027 - Western Canada Theatre

THE KAMLOOPS WINE FESTIVAL WILL RETURN IN MAY 2027

The iconic Kamloops event will now be operated by Western Canada Theatre. It is no secret that wine and theatre make a perfect pairing.

Since 1998, the Kamloops Wine Festival has been bringing together wine enthusiasts, local businesses, and community members for an unforgettable celebration of wine, food, and connection. Over nearly three decades, the festival has become a highly anticipated event, welcoming guests to discover new favourites, explore exceptional wines, and share in a truly memorable experience. For many years the festival was run by event organizer, Judy Basso. As she moves on to other pursuits, the team at Western Canada Theatre–which has often been a beneficiary and collaborator on the event–will take over operations and stage the next festival on May 15, 2027 at the Colombo Lodge.

“I am absolutely thrilled to see the Kamloops Wine Festival begin this exciting new chapter with Western Canada Theatre,” says Basso. "After more than 20 years, it means so much to me to pass the torch to an organization that understands the importance of bringing our community together through memorable experiences. I am incredibly proud of what we have built, and I know Western Canada Theatre will bring fresh energy and ideas to this beloved Kamloops tradition. I couldn’t be happier about where the Festival is headed.”

Western Canada Theatre has been a charitable beneficiary of many local events over the years including Boogie the Bridge, The VW Turtle River Race, and BrewLoops. When this happens, their team typically lends support in planning and promoting the events and shares their dedicated pool of volunteers. WCT has also staged many of its own events, including a memorable 50th Anniversary fundraising concert and party last Spring. Starting with the 2027 Kamloops Wine Festival, WCT will take on the role of producer, helping guide the Festival into its next chapter while honouring the traditions and community spirit that have made it such a success. For more than 50 years, Western Canada Theatre has been bringing people together through exceptional artistic and cultural experiences. That same commitment to creating memorable moments, fostering community connection, and delivering outstanding events will help support the continued growth of the Kamloops Wine Festival. While the Festival will be operated by Western Canada Theatre, it will continue to  have a distinct brand with its own identity. The Festival will maintain its own website, social media presence, followers, and sponsors, while recognizing that there will naturally be some overlap with Western Canada Theatre’s audiences, supporters, and community partners.

WCT’s Development Director, Stephanie McLean, will be taking on the role of Festival Director, and she will be joined by Jake Kopytko as Festival Coordinator, and Marketing Director Kirk Smith. Deborah Podurgiel, a sommelier who has taken on multiple roles with the  Festival in the past will be connecting with vendors as the Vendor Coordinator. “I feel incredibly honoured to be part of the next chapter of the Kamloops Wine Festival. What excites me most about this event isn’t simply the wine—it’s the opportunity to create  meaningful moments,” says McLean. “I’m excited to build on the incredible foundation Judy has created over the years, while bringing our own energy and ideas to the festival for years to come. My hope is that people leave with new favourites, lasting impressions, and an even stronger connection to the community around them.”

Early Bird tickets will go on sale in the new year, with the 2027 Festival resembling recent years: a one-day tasting event featuring  Kamloops and BC wineries, local food vendors, live music, and more. In future years, the hope is to grow into a larger, multi-day event,  which it had been pre-pandemic. If anyone is interested in supporting the event, they are encouraged to reach out to info@kamloopswinefestival.ca. Some sponsors have already come on board, with Sandman Group joining as the official hotel partner. More details about the event will be released in the coming months, and anyone who’s interested should sign up for their e-newsletter at kamloopswinefestival.ca
