It's "Closing Time" for Chelsea Hotel Artists

We say farewell and thank you to the artists from Chelsea Hotel: The Songs from Leonard Cohen, following what should have been Closing Night on April 4. While most of them have returned to Vancouver, the Chelsea Hotel creator, director and performer Tracey Power stays here, at home, in Kamloops.

A short reminder as to why the artists were here so long for a show that didn't run: When the rehearsals were cancelled on March 16, most of the performers had no homes to return to, having sublet their places. So…  they stayed, and we were honoured that we could provide them with accommodation.

They, in turn, honoured—and thrilled and uplifted—us with a livestream performance of songs from the play from their balconies at the Riverland Inn and Suites and requested that any donations made through the event go to WCT.

Their performance and generosity—and your response—"made us smile, made us cry", to paraphrase one of the viewers of the livestream.

So, we again warmly thank Steve Charles, Charlie Gallant, Marlene Ginader, Adrian Glynn McMorran and Tracey Power for bringing us virtually together, lifting our spirits, and reminding us, as Cohen says, "We'll be fine."

Enjoy the performance again, or for the first time, at bit.ly/WCTChelseaLivestream.

WCT would also like to thank the National Arts Centre, the Slaight Foundation, Facebook Canada for the opportunity of the livestream (#CanadaPerforms) and Riverland Inn and Suites for hosting the "venue".
