Donor Spotlight | Jennifer Takahashi - Western Canada Theatre

Whether you donate once per year or once per month, every donation we gratefully receive is put to good use. Not only does it support WCT in creating and providing accessible, thought-provoking theatre, it helps us to create a welcoming, inclusive environment both onstage and off. From helping cover organizational costs to helping supply costumes and props for a show, your donations are vital to our survival and perpetuation. We are proud to be YOUR theatre, and we are grateful to each and every one of you for being a part of our theatre community.

Dr. Jennifer Takahashi and her family are some of WCT's newest monthly donors, and Jennifer shared with us the reason behind their monthly contributions to WCT:

I knew the moment of seeing our youngest child clap so hard that their body shook during Western Canada Theatre’s production of Mary Poppins, that I would donate to the company that made such a joyful moment possible.  I was also amazed by the calibre of talent of all ages shown on stage, by the feeling of community surrounding us in the theatre, and by how artists from all over Canada had come to Kamloops to be part of the show.

Over the subsequent years, our family has learned repeatedly through sharing live theatre moments that will never happen again - “Expect the unexpected.”   A form of magic happens in the theatre when such moments are shared.

Anders and I moved to Kamloops years ago for our medical careers and to raise our family.  While training in Kingston, Calgary, Edmonton, and Toronto, we made attending arts events a priority as adding “Flavour to savour for the recipe” of our lives.

As Kamloopsians, we have been taken aback time after time to witness the world-class productions that unfold on stage here.  I try to spread the word, particularly when it has come to recruitment of other professionals to our community.  I feel genuine sadness when friends miss a production that was amazing and knocked out of the park, because they weren’t in town or had other commitments.

The last 4 years have been very challenging for the arts and for artists.  It is testimony to the capabilities and vision of WCT to thrive still, putting on such high calibre productions consistently.  I have also come to admire WCT more and more in how their Kamloops community efforts extend to education and mentorship.  On considering the financial challenges faced by WCT and other important organizations, I have decided during the recent years to make donations monthly in order to offer consistent support.  Perhaps you will consider doing the same?

Cheers to the 2024-2025 WCT season ahead!
