Live theatre helps us connect to each other and our community. It makes us laugh and cry, and it reminds us that we’re not alone. In this challenging moment, at a time of year when we would usually be celebrating in person with friends and family or enjoying a spectacular production in a packed theatre with hundreds of people, it’s more important than ever to keep these dreams alive and have some fun.Western Canada Theatre has been flooded with generosity from our audiences and sponsors alike over the past several months. WCT wants to show our appreciation for the support of our community, and to demonstrate that we are more committed than ever to our city and the artists who share it with us. We will be back, live, and strong as ever, when it is safe to do so. In the meantime, we have created a special treat, just for you… well, several special treats, actually.
We have brought together a crack team of artists – including Kamloops locals, audience favourites from around the province, and students from our very own Stage One Theatre School – to create six holiday-themed videos, plus extras, which we will release on wctlive.ca and social media daily, from Tuesday, December 15th to Sunday, December 20th, culminating in a Live Virtual Watch Party, hosted by Artistic Director, James MacDonald, on Monday, December 21st, on Facebook Live and YouTube. This will include clips from all of the videos as well as bonus surprises, plus commentary and Q&A’s with some of the artists, so you’ll want to get cozy, grab a warm beverage and celebrate with us. In the spirit of giving back, all of these videos, plus the Virtual Watch Party are available for free to anybody who wants to watch and will remain available until January 1st.
We’re sure you’re wondering what exactly these videos will consist of, but we’re not going to tell you. That’s part of the fun! We want to release a new surprise video, “advent calendar” style, every day at 5pm. What we can tell you is that each video will be about 25 minutes long, and you will enjoy musical performances, comedy, classic stories and interactive fun for the whole family – coming to you from our homes, such far-flung locales as Blind Bay and Invermere, and a makeshift TV studio on the Sagebrush Stage. Keep an eye on our homepage and social media because we will be dropping some hints as the first reveal approaches.
A special thank you to our presenting sponsors for this video series:
